Hey Paul, Thanks for posting! The Keystation Pro 88 is a class compliant controller so there will be no drivers to install; it will use your computer's Core MIDI drivers. Jchop provided a great resource for troubleshooting class compliant controllers so I would recommend referencing that first.

Try connecting the Keystation with a different USB cable and to different USB ports on your computer. You should also ensure that you are connecting directly to your computer and not through a USB hub interface. This will help us rule out a connection issue.

Let's also try a few more things - first, a MIDI monitoring software. Please download the following software for testing: Open the software and input some notes and control data with the Keystation.

Does it send MIDI data into the input monitor window? Along the same line as the troubleshooting link jchop posted, we can also check a second location to see if the computer is registering the controller's connection. Open Audio MIDI Setup on your computer. Once that is launched, select Window > Show MIDI Studio.

This window will show you both the MIDI devices that are currently connected and MIDI devices that have been previously connected to the computer. Does the Keystation appear in this window? If the computer is registering the connection, the title of the controller should be colorful rather than grayed out. If the Keystation does not appear in this window, try a new configuration. To do this, select the Configuration field and select New Configuration.

Click “Download Now” to get the Drivers Update Tool that comes with the M-AUDIO ProKeys Sono 88 driver. The utility will automatically determine the right driver for your system as well as download and install the M-AUDIO ProKeys Sono 88 driver. As you mentioned, the ProKeys Sono 88 is a legacy product and has limited support regarding operating systems with which it will function. This controller was supported up to OS X 10.8.4 and is not supported for use with OS X 10.11.6. The last available driver can be downloaded here: M-Audio ProKeys Sono 88 Driver - Mac.

You will be prompted to name it, you can name it whatever you like. Once the new configuration is set, your computer will scan for connected MIDI devices. Does the Keystation appear after completing this procedure?

Audio

Strangely enough, when connected directly to the USB bus, nothing. When I connect it through a powered USB hub, the system sees the keyboard, but the MIDI ports come through as 'Port 1' and 'Port 2' No mention of the device name in MIDI Monitor.

Audio/Midi detects the full name of the device with a small 1 with 2 arrows and a 2 with one arrow on the icon. It is enabled. No response from the keyboard at all. I have a very large paper weight. Hey Jon, I'm sorry you're still having trouble with your MPK. If you have exhausted all the troubleshooting steps, it does sound like this could be relative to the hardware itself and it may require servicing. Warranty and non-warranty claims cannot be handled here on the forum but I can point you in the right direction!
