Mac Excel File Locked For Editing
What do you mean about it? Do you mean the issue only happens when using Excel 2016 to open a password protected Excel file saved in SharePoint Library which has 'Require Check Out' enabled? No issue when using Excel 2016? And no issue when opening a normal Excel file saved in this library?

If the file is in a document library without forced check out, then the read-only banner is not shown. Same with using older versoin of excel, or removing the password protection from said file. So all three conditions need to be in place for this to happen. What's your detailed Excel 2016 version? You can click File > Account > About Excel to collect the detailed Excel version number. For the 'check out' setting, it is the configuration in SharePoint side. I notice that the issue happens to all users and computers.
