We’re in Space?! I'm not one to usually ask for help but this one is driving me a bit nuts. I bought a new 2TB drive for the PS4 since I was running out of space. Replacing the drive is going to be super simple, the problem I'm encountering though is that I want to backup the existing data as I do not want to download ~400gb of data again. I have a 3TB Western Digital MyBook that I have formatted as MS-DOS from Disk Utility, the PS4 notes that the drive is there because it does take me to the backup screen and lists the size of everything it will backup, however, no matter what it shows 0 for the data available on the backup drive. I've tried formatting as ExFAT and MS-DOS. Both with single partition and two partitions (first being 1TB in case 3TB is too much).
I'd really like to try to get this done soon so would appreciate any help on this one. For what it's worth, I did mine with a 1TB drive, connected via a SATA cradle. I formatted it with MS-DOS FAT (or whatever it's called, it was the only FAT-like option it gave me from Disk Utility), in Mountain Lion. It backed up fine from the PS4 (reeeeeeeally slowly though), but when it came to the restore part, the drive seemed to spin down during the 'preparing to restore' part, it immediately failed and I had to do the PS4 Initialization again. What worked for me on that step was to use a different SATA cradle. So keep that in mind - not all ways of connecting your hard drive to the PS4 is equal.
