Canon Hg10 Software For Mac

Canon Hg10 Software For Mac Rating: 4,6/5 1580 votes

I downloaded Canon's HG10 sample video and it looks NOTHING like the output I am getting. So my guess is that iMovie 08 is doing a very bad job of importing these videos from the device. I'm looking for another software package that I can use just to test whether it is iMovie or the camera. Playing the.MTS files raw in VLC is an option.

It appears that the camcorder is only recognised by the computer through the Corel software package. Unfortunately I am having difficulty getting the software activated.

Is there a driver somewhere that I can download that will do the same thing? I think it's a very poor idea for Canon to give a single software company absolute control over how their product will be connected to computers. With my previous DV camcorder (Panasonic) I simply plugged it in and it was recognised by all my editing software. This sounds like a step backwards to me. Don't have either.

I have Pinnacle studio 10 and ULead MovieFactory Deluxe 2 SE I understood that the movies are stored in the Camcorder as MPEG4s, so if the camcorder is recognised as an accessory hard drive by my computer I should be able to download via Windows Explorer, should I not, then edit with any software that can handle MPEG4s? At the moment I want to edit in regular DVD format with 9x13 screen, and go to HD editing within a year or so as I upgrade equipment. I was told I could do this with the HG10. Am I mistaken?

Thanks for the reference to the other thread; I read it yesterday before posting, though I didn't quite understand it. Let me clarify: when I connect the canon hg10 to the computer via usb (no firewire on hg10) and turn it on, and put in 'play' mode, the computer recognizes the camera and a drive icon appears on the desktop.

I can gain entry to it and examine the file names in it, but cannot import them into iMovie /iDVD. That is what I mean by 'wouldn't dance.' The software that came with the camera, Corel, is unusable; I can put it in the drive, but there is nothing that opens, sets up, or installs. It looks like windows stuff only. There was a Image Browser app. On a separate disc that seems to only want to work with still images.

I was under the illusion that the canon hg10 would work seamlessly with Leopard - they told me this at Best Buy. Now I no longer live in innocent naivete. Thanks for taking the time to think about this. I had a problem getting the two to 'dance' as well. I thiink I got iMovie '08 to finally recognize the camera after going to. In fact I think I may have had to do that a couple of times.

Give it a few minutes as well to see if it 'catches'. If it sees the camera's hard drive, then iMovie 08 should eventually see the footage. I just remember trying a bunch of different things (turn camera off and on, unplug/plug in USB cable, etc) and eventually IMovie recognized the camera was attached. Sorry I don't recall exactly what it was, but I just remember it took some 'fiddling around'.

Once it connects though, and you get your footage, be sure to initialize the camera's HD. Once you do that, IMovie should recognize it right away. Canon HG 10 and Final Cut Express - help I've read this thread with interest, but I have one difference: I'm trying to use Final Cut Express 4 to work with my Canon HG10. So far, nothing! Small games for mac. Yet I would seem to have all the necessary equipment to make this work: intel-powered iMac 2GHz, Canon HG10 AVCHD camcorder and Final Cut Express 4.0. I have read that one simply uses FCE's 'Log & Transfer' window to bring the clips in from the camcorder, but I've tried and nothing shows up in the window -- no clips, nothing.

I've tried everything I can think of to bring those camcorder files into FCE, but it won't find/see them. Yet the camcorder does show up on the desktop.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! (Starting to think seriously about returning the HG10 for the miniDV-based HV20.). I've read this thread with interest, but I have one difference: I'm trying to use Final Cut Express 4 to work with my Canon HG10.
