I already posted this in the Steam forums some days ago but I never got an answer. Basically, while restoring a full backup, only about half of the games show up, forcing me to redownload dozens of gigabytes all over again. This has happened to me twice so far. While creating a backup, doesn't Steam let you choose the file size? Because I always punch in a random large number in regards to how big I want the file to be. This way it just creates one big Steam backup disk instead of several smaller ones. Hopefully I'm getting this right so far.

Jun 17, 2017 - Install the linux version of steam as well as the windows version,. Linux and Windows machines (but haven't tried macOS) and use the same backup. The game installs all the data files but the executables (files made for.

What format usb for mac and pc. And of course, I always make sure all my games are checked off before performing the backup. So why exactly is it that when I try and restore a full backup, some games are missing from the backup 'disk'?

I don't know how you do it but if you want to back up, just copy your entire Steam folder somewhere else, then just install steam over that folder when you want to restore your games. Ampiva I just use the regular backup utility in Steam. Has anyone successfully tried the method you mentioned? Sounds a lot more simplified. A question, when you create the backup, Disk 1 folder has the Steam application that let's you restore your game?; if it doesn't have it then it will only restore the Disk 1 folder.

The other folders won't be recognized. Miroku32 I don't really know. I just follow the basic steps in the backup utility.

I'm currently not at home so I can't be 100% sure about the following but I believe you can create multiple 'Disk' folders, depending on how large you want the backup to be, which you can set by entering any number (of gigabytes). This is where I just enter a random large number (way bigger than any of my games combined in total size), which results in one backup 'Disk' and yet, not all my games are backed up.

When I attempt to back up ANY game I own within steam, I am getting burned. The backup does create the structure gamename/disk1 in my selected folder like it used to but when I open up disk1 instead of seeing a steambackup.exe to restore the game back like I used to, all I see is a bunch of.csd and.csm files and a sku.sis file. THERE IS NO STEAMBACKUP.EXE TO RESTORE THE GAME BACK TO STEAM. COULD SOMEONE VERIFY MY PROBLEM ON YOUR SYSTEM TO SEE IF YOU GET THE SAME RESULTS (USE A SMALL GAME). What's going on?

Did something change? How do I restore my backup now with nothing executable in the game folder to click on? I am very confused about this.if there is a change, will my old steambackup.exe backups still work for restore? I posted a thread similar to this in the Dark Souls forum.:) The short answer is some games will automatically give you an EXE to restore, and some won't. The Backup and Restore feature (supposedly) does the job regardless of an EXE.

Think back when Steam wasn't on 30 million computers, it was handy to have a way to make things easier. Unfortunately they didn't really give us a good idea about the feature change. Maybe it's in some past patch notes somewhere. Anyway, after all that I still find the Backup feature tremendously inefficient and unrelible for multiple games or entire library. So I'm giving this util a shot before I reformat and upgrade to Win 64-bit.

Because I *do* know how much of a pain it is to reverify an entire library instead of redownloading 250 gig. I did a Back up of my Half life files and my Day of defeat files to another hard drive since the 2nd hard drive had more space. Well in the process it did not copy my PersonalConfig file. And I have tried to figure out how to replace the file but can't since there all in either CSM or CSD format. I can't just open the file and replace the config file. Since I can't even open the file.

In windows your personal files are in my docs/ my games. Back up only does the game files.
